I can gather that they’re supposed to be notifications that don’t get focus, so I don’t see why they do. There are some annoying popup windows that steal context in the middle of typing, yet are small and hidden in the corner. So every time I use punctuation I get this annoying green, italicised text everywhere. Options aren’t named consistently though, so prepare to rack your brain trying to think of how else something might be worded.Īptana italicises anything between single quotes in Markdown, for some reason. There’s a few places to change colours, and setting indentation levels appears in multiple locations. Of course, Aptana’s settings menu is searchable, which is good, because it’s laid out in a confusing way. Not a bad idea if you want to get all developers in a team to use the same baseline of keyboard shortcuts. Interestingly, they can be exported to CSV, which I don’t recall seeing anywhere else. You can override and modify keyboard shortcuts to your heart’s content, which is a pretty standard thing now, which is good. Because the UI is so standard, Aptana is the first IDE I’ve encountered that provides the default Ctrl+Tab behaviour. There are some dialogs that have buttons in the wrong order, i.e. The UI in Aptana is pretty standard, albeit with a few oddities. I suppose that’s nice, letting Java developers actually start using the language without having to learn a whole new IDE. coming from a Java background, they’ll be right at home. For those who know Eclipse extremely well, i.e. This is basically the shining point of the editor. They don’t cause any errors to occur in the graphical side of things, I just think it’s sloppy that they’re occurring at all. Same as with Eclipse, I notice random Java exceptions appearing in the output from Aptana. So I’ve basically got an obese text editor. I’ve closed a lot of the sidebars, with the only one being open now is the project explorer. It feels like Komodo IDE - I’m staring into a narrow tunnel when I’m trying to edit my code. This is either not accounting for multiple Python versions, or presumptuous, both of which are silly. There’s an autoconfig option which only generates config options for Python 3, not Python 2. It turns out, Aptana won’t prompt you to do this until you actually try to open a Python file - then it’s dialogs ahoy. I was impressed that I didn’t seem to need to configure it to use particular Python versions or anything. I’m yet to see any of the advantages that Aptana brings over Eclipse - they feel exactly the same, with the difference that Aptana has removed all the other “Perspectives” for Java development and what-not. ![]() Starting up a new terminal takes roughly five seconds to open, which is obviously terrible. When I used it, my machine is sluggish and generally unpleasant to use. ![]() It’s slow, and the memory usage is terrible. The same freezes occur sporadically when I’m typing as well.įor those of you that have used Eclipse before, you’ll be familiar with all of its issues. When I start it up, it looks like it’s ready to go, but it’s actually frozen - I have to wait another 20-30 seconds before I can actually use it. If you want to use Aptana, you’ll want to have a lot of RAM, and probably leave it open all the time. That’s really all I have to say on the matter. Aptana Studio 3 (with integrated PyDev)Īptana is Eclipse. ![]() For the past week, I’ve been looking at PyDev/Aptana, which is essentially an Eclipse plugin. There isn’t the greatest variety when it comes to weapons, with your arsenal largely revolving around a pretty standard assault rifle, shotgun, and pistol trio. Movement feels almost as responsive and crisp as Respawn’s classic as well, which is no mean feat considering how satisfying traversal in Titanfall 2 feels, with snappy and responsive gunplay complimenting the parkour elements perfectly. Part of that feeling is undoubtedly due to Titanfall 2 seeming a clear inspiration for the feel of the gunplay and maneuverability that makes Bright Memory: Infinite such a hoot to play.ĭouble jumps, wall running, grappling hooks, and lethal parkour-filled obstacle courses are all par for the course here as you dart around the various levels taking on wave after wave of enemy. Over the course of its two-hour runtime, Bright Memory: Infinite provided me with more fun than I’ve had with a single-player shooter since Respawn blessed us with Titanfall 2’s wonderful campaign. ![]() Thankfully, the gameplay is where Bright Memory: Infinite really sings. With a dedicated writer or two and a decent editor, the gameplay wouldn’t have had to do as much heavy lifting as it does. Plot points are glossed over within seconds, character motivations are non-existent, and I can’t help but think that as impressive as Bright Memory: Infinite is overall having come from a single developer, it’s an experience that would have greatly benefited from solid creative input. There’s also a supernatural element at play, with mythological enemies being thrown into the mix early on, but again, I was never exactly sure as to why Sheila and Lin’s timeline was being invaded by these beings, only that they were somehow linked to the aforementioned black hole. There is the main antagonist, General Lin, but his motives were never made apparent, which is a shame as it reduces the waves of Lin’s goons that you’ll be mowing down to nothing more than mere cannon fodder. Stepping into the boots of Super Nature Research Organisation agent Sheila, players are tasked with investigating a black hole that (from what I could gather) is in danger of being used by a rival military organization for nefarious means that were never quite clear. If I had one concern going into Bright Memory: Infinite, it’s that I thought we were perhaps looking at a glorified tech demo, but, thankfully, that’s far from the case, and Bright Memory: Infinite provides a concise and heart-pounding romp that manages to prove worthwhile despite an extremely short runtime.īefore I start gushing about what a blast Bright Memory: Infinite is to play, I want to clarify something – and that is if you’re someone who values coherent narrative and deep world-building in your video games, you won’t find that here, unfortunately. ![]() Even more impressive is that it comes from a one-man development team, FYQD Studio a fact that I had to keep reminding myself of over the course of my playthrough. Playing the finished product, it’s easy to see why it was chosen to lead the charge that year, as quite frankly, it’s absolutely beautiful to look at and contains production values that would make plenty of AAA studios blush. According to legends, King Sargon led the Akkadians and went on to become the first ruler of the Akkadian Empire. Later, around 2300 B.C.E., the Akkadians from northern Mesopotamia conquered the land. The Akkadian Empire For over a thousand years, Sumer was a land of independent city-states. Social Studies Vocabulary capital code of laws economy empire siege tribute Vocabulary Cards Glossary 1. © 2022 Teachers' Curriculum Institute Level: A What was life like in each of these powerful Mesopotamian empires? Who were the ruthless rulers that commanded them? Why did they all collapse? Let's find out more about these empires. Some people even chose to rebel against kings, creating problems within the empire. Rulers focused on improving their military strategies and began training warriors in more advanced tactics. You will also learn that each of these empires faced conflict with neighboring lands, which led to many wars. They were the Akkadian Empire, the Babylonian (bah-buh-LOH-nyuhn) Empire, the Assyrian (uh-SIR-ee-un) Empire, and the Neo-Babylonian Empire. In this lesson, you will learn about four empires that rose to power in Mesopotamia between 2300 and 539 B.C.E. Groups like the Akkadians first conquer and then rule other lands. This group made the Sumerian city-states a part of an empire, which is a large territory where groups of people are ruled by a single leader or government. ![]() About 2300 B.C.E., the Akkadians (uh-KAY-dee-unz) conquered Sumer. ![]() Their division left them open to attacks by stronger groups. They often fought over land and water rights, never uniting into one group. The city-states of ancient Sumer were like small independent countries. As you read on, you will discover what happened to the Sumerians and who ruled Mesopotamia after them. Exploring Four Empires of Mesopotamia What were the most important achievements of the Mesopotamian empires? Introduction Ancient Sumer flourished in Mesopotamia between 35 B.C.E. ![]() The other is High Frame Rate Mode (HFR), which can be off or on. First up is Graphics Mode: either “Favor Performance” (prioritizes higher frame rate over sharper visuals) or “Favor Resolution” (prioritizes sharper visuals over a higher frame rate). In the “Graphics & Camera” section of God of War Ragnarök’s options menu on PS5, you’ll find two settings that combine to let you adjust the visuals and performance. While I haven’t been able to check out the PS4 version myself, I can explain the options available there, which depend on whether you’re playing on a PS4 or PS4 Pro. God of War Ragnarök offers four ways to play on PS5. God of War Ragnarök’s graphics modes on PS5 and PS4, explained Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of how the game looks and feels. 9 on PS5 and PS4, to learn more about Kratos’ and Atreus’ continuing adventures through the canon of Norse mythology. You can read our review of God of War Ragnarök, which launches Nov. In particular, the game’s support for the technological bells and whistles packed into the latest televisions elevates the experience to make this a defining technical showcase for the PS5. I can put to rest any fears that the game’s cross-generation status would compromise the PS5 version: It takes full advantage of Sony’s newest console to deliver an astounding level of performance that has impressed me at every turn, and continues to do so almost 30 hours in. I’m thrilled to report that that’s the baseline for the sequel, God of War Ragnarök, on PlayStation 5. It wasn’t until three years later, with a patch that unleashed the power of the PlayStation 5, that we could experience the game the way it was meant to be played: in 60-frames-per-second glory. God of War continued the series’ tradition of pushing console hardware to its limits, resulting in a graphical powerhouse whose performance left something to be desired, whether on a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro. Santa Monica Studio’s 2018 reboot of the God of War franchise was an absolute home run - so much so that it’s easy to forget some of its less successful elements now. The tedium of building up your economy and other minor bugs aside, this is an above average city builder / real-time combat game. A simple speed control would have done away with this problem. As in The Settlers, you have no direct control over your workers and can’t tell them to focus on a particular part of the economy. The first major problem is the pacing-it can take hours to build up your village and forces, but much of this time you’re left twiddling your thumbs waiting for supplies to move or things to be constructed. The strategic AI is pretty much pre-scripted and trigger-based, and the computer players often outnumber you (but don’t do much in the way of building or repair) the tactical AI, on the other hand, can be competent in battle. The original game ships with only two tutorial missions and an 18 mission campaign. The manual is at best decent, but is altogether incomplete. Problems minor and major, however, really drag the game down. Individual units form into larger groups, complete with facing and formation control. For fans of RTS combat there is fighting (the “Knights” part of the title), and it’s pretty hood. If you’re at all a fan of the building phase of other games (SimCity and Caesar come to mind), this part of the game is initially quite engaging. Resources and items can be kept in a central storehouse or moved right to where they’re needed, all without money it’s. Instead of just one or two resources and single-level production you’ve got up to five raw resources and multiple levels of production, much of it cross-linked. ![]() Nevertheless, there is an economy that’s fairly extensive for a city builder. And despite the “Merchants” part of the title, there’s little trade outside of your village. Other than in the all-combat scenarios, most of gameplay involves building up a village and its complex economy to the point where you can deploy armies and take them on the offensive. ![]() While the game runs in “real-time,” it’s not an RTS game, except perhaps when it comes to combat. You supposedly play the role of Captain of the King’s Guard, although you’re really more of an Alderman. There is no magic, just the types of humans you’d expect to populate such a world: serfs, skilled labor, tradesmen, and soldiers. Knights and Merchants is a strategy game set in a quasi-medieval fictional world. This is because a good part of the team that worked on The Settlers also created this current game. Knights and Merchants: The Shattered Kingdomĭon’t be surprised if Knights and Merchants bears more than a passing resemblance to The Settlers.
